Midbar regional drainage facility

Las Vegas, Nevada

Lochsa Engineering provided the civil, hydrologic modeling and hydraulic design of the construction of the Clark County Regional Flood Control Facility (labelled as DCBD 0177 in Las Vegas Valley Flood Control Master Plan), with a design flow of approximately 2300cfs.  The flood control facility was constructed to intercept and convey the Blue Diamond Wash-Middle Branch through the 19.5-acre site to allow for the improvement of the One Las Vegas High Rise Condominium Towers, at the northwest corner of Las Vegas Boulevard and Shelbourne Avenue.  The constructed flood control improvements consist of a 43.0-ft(span) x 7-ft (rise) inlet/Headwall structure, 40-ft long transition structure, 1600lf of 28-ft x 6.95-ft Hydro Arch storm drain line, a 20-ft long transition structure and a 38.0lf of  3:10-ft x 8-ft Reinforced Concrete Box Culverts (RCBC).  Lochsa Engineering also obtained FEMA approval of the design of the flood control facilities in a Conditional Letter of Map Revision (CLOMR) application.  Upon the construction of the facility, Lochsa Engineering removed the project site from the designated Special Flood Hazard Area (SFHA) designated as Zone 'AE' and Floodway after obtaining FEMA approval of a Letter of Map Revision (LOMR) based on the as-built plans of the flood control facilities.
