Shark Reef AT Mandalay Bay

Las Vegas, Nevada

Mandalay Bay takes aquariums a step beyond by building a state-of-the-art shark attraction. It is the largest indoor shark exhibit on the west coast. Visitors enter the foyer and climb the steps into an ancient Aztec dwelling. Walking amid blocks of faux stone, visitors are told that they have somehow left Las Vegas and entered an ancient temple that is slowly sinking into the sea. Visitors find themselves face-to-face with a couple of 13-foot crocodiles, sea turtles and stingrays as video screens provide information about the creatures’ lives and habitat.

Lochsa Engineering provided complete structural design services for this $45 million, 90,000 square foot exhibit.
