The 1.2 million square foot development, located near the intersection of Craig Road and Interstate 15, is designed to look like an old-fashioned 1940’s cannery in appearance and theme. The Cannery Casino & Hotel has been a multi-phase development spanning the past 9 years. Design started on the original portion of the Casino/Hotel in 2001. Construction started in 2002 and the facility opened in 2003. Amenities included a 201-room hotel, a 50,000 square foot casino, 96,000 square foot Galaxy Theater, four restaurants and “The Club”, which is a venue that hosts private parties, ticketed concert events, outdoor festivals and sporting events, including boxing as well as business meetings and conventions.
In 2004 Lochsa Engineering designed a 5-story, approximately 720,000 square foot, 1,825-space parking garage. The garage construction combined cast-in-place concrete walls and foundations with precast concrete columns and floor beams. The lateral force resisting system consisted of concrete shearwalls designed for seismic design category D. Decorative precast concrete spandrel panels maintain the existing 1940’s theme. The flood control design efforts included the hydrologic modeling for the watershed impacting the site and perimeter streets, modeling of the flow split between streets and flood protect the structures against street flows.
